T-Minus 17 Weeks and Counting

Counting this week there are 17 training weeks left till the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon.  Yes I know that it is a little early, plus crazy, to get excited to put my body through 26.2 miles of running, but believe it or not I am.  During my training run yesterday I began to think about the upcoming weeks.  How the shorter runs would get longer, the long runs would increase all the way up to 20 milers, there would be many early training mornings, and also how I would go through two new pairs of running shoes.  Also the leg soreness would increase, the grocery bill would go up due to the mass amount of pasta that I need to eat, and having to train no matter what the weather conditions are.  Plus not to forget the countless ice baths and over 671.2 miles of running after I cross the finish line.  When I was training for my first marathon fear would set in as I looked at the training plan for the upcoming week.  During the training for my second marathon the fear was a little less, with some excitement mixed in.  Now as the training is starting to ramp up into full gear I am honestly looking forward to all the training and meeting my goals.   I know that I never set out originally to run 3 marathons in 12 months time, but it is funny how goals can easily change.   I have survived two marathons so what does a 3rd one hurt?  More?  Who knows?  The feeling of running another marathon in front of the home crowd in Detroit is also helping fuel my excitement.   It was a great feeling seeing lots of people that I know come down and support me when I ran the Detroit Marathon in 2005.   Having them cheer, slap my hand, or accept a sweaty hug as I went by helped propel me to finish.  That day involved lots of sweat, pain, smiles, thank you’s, and tears….and I am looking forward to that experience again.
