19 Miles

Is it time that the long runs get up to 19 miles already?  Is the Marathon closer than I think it is?  Well yes to the first question but no to the second question.  I set the bar a little higher this time around and made a training schedule with more longer runs to help me do better towards the end of the marathon where I have had problems in the past.  Hopefully this strategy works.  Saturday September 2nd would be the day that I had planned on running 19 miles.  My legs felt rested from the CRIM, and even though I did have one episode of calf spasms in my left leg the after pain was not present on Saturday morning.   Healing faster or the body once again adapting?  Perhaps a little more help from above.  I ran the first 16 miles with Christina and Michelle on the Paint Creek trail.   We kept a good solid marathon pace, and took a few walking breaks.  Good conversation and stories along the way also helped pass the miles.  I know these two will do great at their event in San Francisco.  After the 16 miles I rested for a few, downed some Gatorade, ate part of a bagel and was off again for 3 more miles.  Surprisingly the last 3 miles were not as bad I thought they would be.  I think that was due to the great running weather and also the consistent pace that was kept for the first 16 miles.  I hope that I feel that good on the day of the Marathon in October.
