Singing in the Rain

Well I would not say that I was exactly singing.   Running, looking for a canoe, slipping in puddles, and drowning at times would be more like it.  Since it appears that we are being treated to a sudden monsoon season yesterday was another run in the rain.   I am thankful that the thunder and lightning stayed away but at times I felt like I may as well have gone swimming instead of run.  It was actually a good 10 mile run.  The rain kept my body temperature down and trying to avoid puddles in the beginning made it interesting.  After about 3 miles though it became clear that avoiding puddles was useless since even if I bailed onto some grass the shoes still got soaked.  So I kept on the planned path and simply ran right through the puddles.  Remembering that as a kid we would always hit the puddles on purpose, so why should it be any different now?  On the way back home I swear that the same puddles had become deeper than when I crossed though them earlier.  More fun I guess.  But I do have to say the best part of the run was the last half mile.  As I turned down the last stretch of road it began to rain harder and harder.  It was difficult to see in front of me but the force of the rain made me run harder.  So instead of slacking at the end of a training run like I usually do the rain made me run hard like I should be at the end of a run.  Of course as I floated in past the 10 mile mark the rain then slowed down and stopped.  I guess the coaching for the run at the end was provided by the man up stairs.

  1. Well written.. Being reminded of the good childhood days is a good feeling! Amazing how we avoid things we used to purposely do when we were kids huh? You\’re improving so much as a runner, I\’m quite proud of you.

  2. Isn\’t it refreshing to know that other folks look at you like you\’re a little off because you\’re running in the rain? Remember, we\’re approaching the cold and flu season,  I couldn\’t resist saying that. Great job, as usual.
