Big Bird Run

Yes I actually did see Big Bird, or at least one person dressed as Big Bird running the 10K race in Roseville, MI on Sunday morning.  This race has been going on for over 20 years so I am not exactly sure where the name of the race comes from.  If you do know feel free to post where the name of the race originally came from.  Well the race it self was fun.  I saw a lot of the usual runners from the area, and the weather was not too cold.  My goal was to get a personal record in the 10K with a time below 50 minutes.  So I set the pacing feature on my Garmin to beep at me if my pace fell below what was required to hit my goal.  As usual I started off too fast with the first mile at about 7:30.  So when I saw that time flash on my Garmin I immediately slowed down my pace and settled in.  The course was just as I remembered it.  It felt more like a daily run through the neighborhood than an actual race, but I liked that.  The course was flat except for when you have to use the pedestrian bridge to cross over I-696, but it was not that bad.  I did have some breathing trouble over miles 4 and 5, but I think that was due to the cold air and the pace I was running at.  I finished with a time of 49:51.  A new personal record for the 10K!   So I achieved my goal and had a great run.
