Accidental 20 Miler
After last Saturday I think I really do need to commit myself to a runners rehab clinic. If one even exists? As long as no one wore their sweaty running clothes and shoes to the meetings I think I would attend. I was still suppose to be in recovery mode from the marathon a couple of weeks ago and I had told myself no more then 14 miles for that weeks long run. I am not sure if it was the surprisingly good hill training run I had on Wednesday of that week or call it mental stupidity. I ended up running 20.5 miles instead of the planned 14. No I did not get lost on some trail, but that would be a good excuse. I knew the area that I was running at very well. The morning started out good. I ran a pretty hard 10 miles with some of the fast TNT runners, got some fluids, and then the plan was to get in 4 more miles helping some of the other runners who were scheduled to run 20 miles that day. It was the first 20 miler for most of them and I knew how having someone to run my first 20 miler with helped me through. I started out running with two of the TNT runners and my mind kept saying okay lets turn around and head back. But my body felt good so I ignored the suggestive advice and continued on. Before I knew it, it made no sense to turn around and head back, so I ended up helping them complete their 20 mile run. At the end of the course my Garmin read 20.50 miles. Yikes! I guess that is a new way to add another 20 mile run to the schedule before Bayshore next month. The second 10 miles were about 1 – 2 minutes slower than my normal pace but I felt good that my mental mindset stayed in tack and allowed me to run that far. I think having good company to run with really helped out also. Good luck to all of the TNT runners and walkers that will be heading to Nashville and Vancouver for their events. All of you will do great. Also I wanted to say great job to everyone that finished the Boston Marathon yesterday. Even more proof that runners still compete in all types of weather.

Dude, you really do need help!!! This will be the mental advantage that will help you at Bayshore.
Great Job!!!
Coach Ken
Haha, good times, good times. Sounds like your body will be well used to running on tired legs at Bayshore! I can\’t believe it\’s only five weeks away. Time flies when you\’re a crazy running fool, I guess. 😛
