Bayshore Marathon 2007 #1 – Pre Race

I learned once again that tapering can be one of the hardest pats about marathon training.  We had our last long run of only 8 miles a week before the event.  After running those 8 miles I occupied myself by talking to all of the other runners for about an hour to resist the temptation to head out and run some more.  It is truly amazing how the body can actually thirst for more punishment.  With the exception of the fast 8K that I ran that week I actually rested up with shorter runs.  When Friday finally arrived I was all packed and made the trip up to Traverse City, Michigan.  When arriving at the Grand Traverse Resort I was reminded of another perk to doing an event with Team in Training.  At least for the events that I have done we have always stayed at the best hotels in the area.  And I have learned the reason for that is because the hotels cut us amazing deals in support of our charitable cause.  Just their way of helping out and giving back.  Friday evening began with posing for a group picture for about 5 minutes, or at least it felt that long.  I think I actually smiled for the first 30 seconds and then Jeff and I went into conversation mode as he continued to get me to do some trail running.  It will be interesting to see the picture and who is talking and not smiling at the cameras.  The Pasta Party that evening was great as always.  Good food and emotional motivation about our cause and all the good our fundraising has done.  I then went back to my room triple checked my race gear for the morning and got some sleep.
